So you’ve made the decision to hire a professional to cleaning and restore your tile back to new. That’s great! Smart decision to leave it in the hands of a professional to ensure quality service is being done. But how can you be sure the person you hire is really a professional? Here are some interview questions you can ask your tile and grout cleaning expert to see if they quality.
1.What kind of training did you go through to become a tile and grout cleaner?
The more informed you are about the contractor you hire, the better. It’s safe to say you are looking for someone who has been properly trained in handling tile and grout, especially if they are dealing with chemicals and colors. The incorrect method of cleaning and ruin your tile and grout.
2. Is Your Company Insured?
Ask to see the insurance information just to be sure. The company you decide to hire should carry liability and workers’ compensation insurance. If they don’t, well then that’s a red flag right there. Any reputable company will have both.
3. Can you give me a list of references?
Once you’ve received the references, don’t be afraid to call them and ask how that company did on their home. You’d be surprise as to how many never ask for reference for one and two if they did ask, they never call.
4. Are you apart of any professional organization?
Well-recognized companies will be apart of some kind of professional organization. For instance, companies in stone and tile might be apart of the Stone and Tile PROS, The Marble Institute of America, or even the IICRC. If the contractor you hire is apart of some organization then the chances are you are good hands. These types of organizations go through background checks and references to ensure the members they bring in are reputable.
5. What cleaning method do you use?
Be sure to ask this question, it is very important when it comes to protecting your tile floors or walls. If they use non-toxic cleaners and chemicals, be sure to ask them what will they do if the tile becomes damaged. Make sure they have some kind of satisfaction guarantee. Also ask if they offer grout or tile replacement and if they seal the work after. Most companies will charge extra for this.
6. Do you have a contract?
What does the contract look like? Is it simple and straight to the point? Does it cover everything to contract talked about? Make sure you can read it and understand it. If you can’t then have the contract give you something you can understand and agree with before signing.
7. Do you offer any kind of guarantee?
Most reputable companies offer some kind of guarantee. Make sure you get that in writing. If they don’t offer a guarantee, your better off going with a company that does to protect yourself in case of any damages.
After going through these questions with your tile and grout contractor, you should have a much better understand of who you are working with, but if you’re still not sure who to hire, always go with your gut.
