Common Questions About Tile and Grout Cleaning
If you’re reading this article then you’re like millions of other tile owners who have tons of questions about your tile and grout and how to keep it clean or how to clean. Well Cleaning & Restoration Port St. Lucie is here to help!
We understand that grout cleaning is a messy and dirty situation that most people have to deal with at one point or another if they have tile floors so we decided to come up with a list of common questions you might be asking yourself about tile and grout cleaning.
Why Does Grout Become So Dirty and Stained?
Think of grout as like a sponge because it has very similar feature. Grout is made out of water, sand and cement. As you might know, sand likes to soak up water so if your grout does not have sealer when it was first laid then your grout is vulnerable to the elements of dirt, dust, and debris that can get into the pores of your grout. So unsealed grout is a HUGE reason grout becomes so dirty. Also over time your grout will start to change color and get dirty with normal wear and tear, improper cleaning techniques, and/or untreated spills and messes that can really damage your tile.
Is Sealer Needed for New Tile Install?
So I kind of already answered this question In the first question. Yes it is very important that your grout is sealed even if it is brand new. I would go as far as saying especially if it’s brand new. Again Sealant is applied for prevention precautions. It will protect your tile and specially your grout from soaking up any spills or water into it causing the mold, mildew, and discoloration.
When Should I Reseal My Grout?
According to Grout Doctor who has been a trusted name in cleaning grout since 1992 says high traffic and heavily used areas require cleaning and sealing at least once a year. Even with the most kept up tiles, it’s recommend to get a deep clean to prolong the lifespan of your tile.
Is Professional Cleaning Necessary or Can I Do It Myself?
Is isn’t suggested that untrained professionals try to clean molded and dirty tile and grout floors because often times inexperience does more harm than good. Most people believe in cleaning tile and grout with harsh chemicals to get the job done right. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Chemicals could possibly make matters worse dealing with grout. It could get trapped alone with the mold and mildew still left behind. It is best to leave this to a professional who has the proper equipment and training needed to restore tile floors and walls like new again.
